“Ekushey February” - 21st February - International Mother Language Day, an important day for the Bengali language and for Bengalis as the anniversary of the day in 1952 when the people of Bangladesh (then East Pakistan) fought for the recognition of the “Bangla” language. PUNASHCHA, based in London, UK has students of all ages. The youngest of the students at Punashcha have been born and are growing up in the UK. They are learning Rabindra Sangeet, as well as songs by other Bengali poets and Hindustani Classical, and through all of that that, their mother tongue, Bengali. Inspired by the spirit of Ekushey, this is the performance of the young students of Punashcha on the occasion of International Mother Language Day. একুশে ফেব্রুয়ারি বাংলা ভাষা ও বাঙালিদের জন্য একটি বিশেষ দিন। কেননা ১৯৫২ সালের এই দিনে বাংলা ভাষাকে পূর্ব পাকিস্তানের অন্যতম রাষ্ট্রভাষা করার দাবিতে কয়েকজন তরুণ শহীদ হন। আর সেই ভাষা শহীদদের আত্মত্যাগের বিনিময়েই বাংলা ভাষা আজ স্বীকৃতি পেয়েছে পৃথিবীর বুকে। একুশে ফেব্রুয়ারি শুধু বাংলাদেশিদের জন্য শহীদ দিবসই না, সারা পৃথিবীতে এই দিনটি আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস হিসাবেও সুপরিচিত। আর এই প্রবাসের মাটিতে বাংলা ভাষাভাষীরা নানান উদ্যেগের মধ্যে দিয়ে চেষ্টা যাচ্ছে এই বাংলা ভাষাকে বাঁচিয়ে রাখতে, এই বাংলা ভাষাকে পরবর্তী প্রজন্মের কাছে পৌঁছে দিতে। আর সেরকমই একটা উদ্যোগ হলো Punashcha School of Music। প্রসিদ্ধ রবীন্দ্রসংগীত শিল্পী শ্যামলী বসুর এই গানের স্কুলটিতে প্রবাসে বড় হওয়া শিশুরা একেবারে শুদ্ধভাবে রবীন্দ্রসংগীত শিখছে, তাদের গানের মধ্যে দিয়ে বাংলা ভাষাকে সযত্নে লালন পালন করছে। শুধু তাইনা এর সাথে সাথে ওরা জানতে পারছে বাংলা ভাষার ইতিহাস, একুশে ফেব্রুয়ারির চেতনা। আর এই একুশের চেতনায় অনুপ্রাণিত হয়ে আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস উপলক্ষ্যে এদেশে বড় হওয়া Punashcha School of Music এর ছোট্ট ছাত্রছাত্রীদের এই পরিবেশনা। - Ameena Tabassum Digital works by Trigon Media Ltd PUNASHCHA: School of Rabindra Sangeet, founded by Mrs Shyamali Basu following the traditional style of Visvabharati Shantiniketan. #Punashcha #Rabindrasangeet #RabindranathTagore #Tagore #ShyamaliBasu #Shantiniketan #Music #EkusheyFebruary #InternationalMotherLanguageDay #Bengali #Bangla
